Wednesday's one-day record count of 102,831 Covid 19 cases was the first daily total to surpass 100,000. It translates to an average of more than 70 Americans reporting positive every minute. A USA TODAY analysis of Johns Hopkins data through late Wednesday shows 22 states set records for new cases for a seven day period – and five states had a record number of deaths in a week.

    NBC News confirms: 120,048 new COVID cases in the U.S. today, the first time cases have crossed the 120,000 mark for single-day cases.
